Beacons for you

Ever heard the term early adopter? If not let’s sum it up real quick; an early adopter is someone who embraces change, especially regarding new products and services.  Ok great, but what does that look like? Think of the last iPhone launch for Apple and how all those people lined up over night to get the new latest and greatest. This is what an early adopter looks like.

Fantastic, now we’ve got a grip on this early adopter thing but how can we make these people work for you? We know that word of mouth is the best type of publicity for your vision or message. Win-win right? Well yes, but how do we make this happen? Let’s elaborate…

These early adopters will serve as beacons for your message, your direction, what you hope will be. So let’s make this easy for them. Here’s a few tips to help get this rolling:

1) Be concise: Early adopters don’t need to be bored with redundant information they already know.  It’s important to note that this will also work against you with non early adopters because a flood of info will be overwhelming and nothing will be retained.

2) Be clear: We need to present your information as efficient as possible.  Think about it like picking things off a conveyer belt. If that belt is moving too quickly it would be impossible to grab everything off it.

3) Be exciting: There is way too much mediocrity out there for you to allow yourself to fall into that category. You need to grab their attention and keep it (refer back to last week’s blog post about the power of music).

4) Be original: Early adopters are people who like to stand out, not blend in.  You believe in your product, prove it to them!

5) Peak their curiosity:  Leave supplementary information on your website that isn’t in the commercial. Early adopters love seeking out information for themselves; provoke this curiosity. Get them jumping into a new pond.

Let’s bring it all together now:  an early adopter is someone who will embrace change and be the beacon for your message in the market.  You can tell people how amazing your product or service is but unless you have people out there spreading the same message it may be all for not.  Cater to these people because it is them who will help the most for your communication strategies.
